In addition to traditional carpets, which are fixed-size products with treated edges and a certain ornament or without it, there is also a cheaper alternative - carpet. Carpet is called carpeting, which is a rolled material with untreated edges. This coating is widely used for both residential and office applications. It has good thermal and sound insulation properties and is distinguished by a variety of designs.
Carpet consists of several basic elements: pile, fixing layer, primary and secondary base. The fiber that makes up the pile of carpet can be artificial and natural. Most often, artificial fiber is used for the production of carpet, which often has a number of undoubted advantages. For example, polyamide fiber is a wear-resistant high-density material. Carpet based on it retains its color and texture for a long time, and its pile does not wear out even with the most intensive use and is not crushed by heavy furniture. Propylene fiber has such a property as antistatic, so when using it, it is not necessary to treat the coating with an antistatic agent. However, at the same time, propylene has low wear resistance and is flammable. Polyester fiber looks similar to wool, but is inferior to it in basic qualities. Wool has such advantages over artificial fibers as strength, elasticity, low thermal conductivity (and hence better ability to retain heat), high fire safety. But it was also not without drawbacks: wool is afraid of dampness, moths, accumulates a static charge and is not cheap. Acrylic fiber is relatively resistant to abrasion, but still inferior in these qualities to products made of polyamide fiber, so acrylic is usually used in a mixture with other materials that significantly increase this parameter.
The primary base of the carpet secures the pile. Depending on where the flooring will be applied, the primary base can be woven and non-woven. The woven primary base is made of polypropylene, and the non-woven base is made of polyamide and polypropylene. Polyamide is more elastic, so a floor covering with such a primary base can be used in cases where its deformation is necessary (on uneven surfaces, bends, etc.).
