The origin of tufted carpet

Tufted carpets originated in Georgia, the United States in the 19th century. Initially, they were also called turf fabrics because of their lawn-like appearance. In the 1930s and 1940s, tufted carpets developed from single-needle tufting to row-needle tufting. In the 1950s, jacquard and printed tufted carpets appeared and gradually became popular in Europe and the United States. Since the 1960s, tufted carpets have been made of chemical fibers as the main raw material, with a width of 4 to 5 meters, becoming the largest and most widely used variety among machine-made carpets.

The main process of tufted carpet

1. Material preparation, weaving the preheated and shaped acrylic fiber into base fabric and various chemical fiber yarns required for flocking.

2. Grafting and shaping, that is, using a needle-rowing machine to lead the chemical fiber yarns to flock in rows and at high speed on the acrylic fiber base fabric, forming neat and dense loop pile or cut pile on the blanket surface.

3. Apply synthetic latex or polyester adhesive on the back of the blanket, and stick the base fabric and flocking into a solid whole.

4. Post-finishing process, including flattening the blanket surface with a shearing machine, printing the blanket surface, gluing the blanket back with a foam plastic backing such as styrene-butadiene glue or polyurethane or a jute cloth backing, and fluffing and finishing the blanket surface with steam.
